Hundreds of students came forward to make decisions for Christ on Tuesday on the campus of the University of Miami, marking the latest stop for the UniteUS movement and its first-ever event in South Florida.
“This is what revival looks like,” the official UniteUS social media page declared, hours after students gathered in the Watsco Center for a night of testimonies, gospel proclamation and musical worship.
UniteUS is a student-led movement that began at Auburn University in 2023 and has since spread to college campuses across the country. This fall, it is expanding to five new campuses, beginning with Pepperdine in Los Angeles (Sept. 22) and Miami, followed by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. (Oct. 13), South Alabama in Mobile (Oct. 27) and Belmont University in Nashville (Nov. 10).
UniteUS has drawn more than 170,000 students to worship gatherings on college campuses across the country, with more than 26,000 making decisions for Christ, according to figures cited by the movement.
It is common for thousands of students to fill arenas.
“God marked the University of Miami tonight!” UniteUS visionary and founder Tonya Prewett wrote on Instagram. “Hundreds of students made the decision to go all in with Jesus and follow up with water baptism!”
Those baptisms continued outside, where UniteUS leaders stood beside troughs and baptized student after student late into the night, as friends gathered around, applauding and celebrating.
“MIAMI, we’ll be thanking God for last night for a long time!!” the official UniteUS account said. “People from so many different backgrounds and walks of life came together to worship Jesus, and we got to see lives changed and callings discovered. What a gift to be in that room with you!”
The baptisms, Unite US said, “are moments we’ll never forget.”
“We’re so grateful we get to be part of something that means so much in the lives of these students,” UniteUS added. “Thank you to everyone who came, served, invited a friend, and prayed for this night! We’re praying that what God began last night continues to grow as students head back to their everyday lives. We love you, Miami, and we’re celebrating with you!!”
Prewett said the movement is evidence of the power of prayer -- not only by her but by countless others across the nation who are praying for revival among Gen Z.
“Don't pray short. If God can fill basketball arenas, God can fill football stadiums and even greater than that,” Prewett told the There Is More podcast. “And if God can unite a campus, He can unite our nation. Ultimately, He can unite our world. What does that look like? I don't know, because I know Bible prophecy and I know what's coming and I know revival is going to continue to rise. Evil will also continue to rise. I know that. I know what I've seen. At the same time, as Christians, we have to do our part to make sure that revival continues to rise.”
